A town of business parks and dual carriageways
Bracknell was built around fast roads and big employers. The A329M runs in from Reading, the A322 drops south towards Bagshot, and between them sit business parks full of cars that stay put from nine till five.
That suits us well. The car's parked for the day anyway, so we fit and balance while you're at work and you drive home on new tyres.
The town was laid out for the car in a way few English towns were, and you end up with dual carriageways, underpasses and a lot of roundabouts. That has a particular effect on tyres, and it's not the one people expect. Very little of the damage we see in Bracknell comes from nails. Most of it is kerbs, at low speed, on roundabout approaches and exits, and in the estate closes where the parking was laid out for one car per house.
Where we cover in Bracknell
RG12 and RG42, from the town centre and the newer developments out to Bullbrook, Priestwood, Easthampstead and Crown Wood, plus the business parks either side of the A329M.
Company car parks, staff car parks and residential streets are all fine as long as we can work safely around the wheel.
Bracknell is east of us along the A329 and it's a run we make often. There's no distance charge, and same day is normal.
New tyres
Premium, mid-range or budget. Tell us the car and what you want to spend and we'll price up two or three good options on the phone.
Puncture repair
If you keep having to top a tyre up, there's something in it. We'll find the leak and fix it.
Part worn tyres
Cheaper, but checked. We're fussy about which part worns we'll fit and we'll tell you the tread depth before you decide.
What we see round here
Commuter mileage wears tyres out quietly
Cars doing fifteen to twenty-five thousand motorway miles a year wear out evenly and quietly. The first sign is often an MOT advisory. If yours is due, it's worth checking the tread before somebody else does it for you.
Kerbs, roundabouts and sidewall damage
Clipping a kerb at fifteen miles an hour doesn't sound like much, and at the time it usually isn't. The damage it does is to the sidewall, and the sidewall is the one part of the tyre that can't be repaired.
What happens is the kerb pinches the sidewall against the rim and breaks some of the cords inside. The rubber on the outside stays intact, so the tyre holds air and looks fine, but the structure underneath has gone in that one spot. Weeks later a bulge appears, and a bulge is a tyre that can let go without warning.
So if you've hit a kerb hard, have a proper look at the tyre, not just the pressure. Run a hand round the sidewall on both sides. If you can feel a lump, that tyre needs replacing.
Where we cover in Bracknell
RG12 and RG42 across the town, taking in Great Hollands, Priestwood, Bullbrook, Easthampstead, Martins Heron, Harmans Water, Crown Wood, Binfield and Warfield.
The office parks and the units around Southern Industrial Area and Western Road are easy visits, because the cars are parked for the working day and there's room to work.
Multi storey and underground car parks we can usually manage, but height restrictions catch the van out now and then, so tell us if that's where the car is and we'll check before we set off.
Questions we get asked
Yes, and it's one of our most common jobs. Let reception know we're coming and tell us where the car's parked.
Or send us the details
Leave us your reg or the tyre size and we'll come back to you with a price.
