A town that has grown faster than its roads
Didcot has grown faster than most towns its size over the last twenty years and the roads have been playing catch-up ever since. Great Western Park, Ladygrove and the newer estates off the B4493 are full of cars on driveways and in narrow closes, and the A4130 and the Milton interchange carry a lot more traffic than they were built for, a fair bit of it construction traffic.
Construction traffic drops things. Screws, nails, offcuts and bits of hardcore end up on the road, and that's a big part of why most of our Didcot calls are punctures and not worn-out tyres.
So we get two very different sorts of job here and do both from the same van. The flat you find on the drive on a Monday morning, and the one that happens on the way out to the A34.
Where we cover around Didcot
OX11 and the roads out towards the A4130 and the A34, plus the newer estates on the edge of town and the Parkway station area where a lot of cars sit all day.
We're based at Burghfield Bridge, so Didcot is a straight run out west for us up the A4 and across. We're over that way a lot and same day is normal for a booked fitting.
New tyres
Give us the reg or the size off the sidewall and we'll turn up with the right tyre on the van.
Puncture repair
The tyre comes off the rim and the repair is done from the inside, so we can see exactly what we're dealing with.
Part worn tyres
We check the tread, the sidewalls, the bead and the age. If a tyre fails on any of those, it doesn't get fitted.
What we see round here
Building sites and dropped fixings
A screw picked up on a site road often sits in the tread for days before it lets go, usually somewhere you'd rather it didn't. If you're topping a tyre up every week there's something in it. We'll find the leak and tell you whether it's a repair or a new tyre.
The Milton interchange and the A34
Anyone driving out of Didcot towards Oxford or Newbury ends up on the A34 sooner or later, and a lot of the calls we get from this area start on that road.
It's fast, it carries a lot of lorries, and there's always debris on the surface that a car tyre meets at seventy miles an hour. What you usually get is a sudden loss of pressure, not a slow leak, and more often than not the sidewall's gone with it.
If you've come off at Milton or Chilton and pulled in somewhere safe, we can do that job at the roadside without the car going anywhere.
Around the town and the estates
The jobs in town look nothing like the A34 ones. Around Ladygrove, Great Western Park and the older streets near the station it's mostly wear that's crept up on somebody, and kerb damage from tight parking.
We cover OX11 across the town and out to the villages around it. Driveway jobs are the easiest thing we do, and you don't need to be at home if we can get to the car and the keys.
The science park and the industrial units off the B4493 are just as easy, and if a work car park suits you better than the house, that's fine by us.
Questions we get asked
Yes. If the car's parked up for the day that suits us well, as long as we can get the van near the wheel and work safely.
Or send us the details
Leave us your reg or the tyre size and we'll come back to you with a price.
