An old market town with modern traffic
Wokingham centre still has the narrow streets and tight corners of a market town, and the traffic going through it doesn't. The A329 runs past towards Bracknell and the A321 heads north to Twyford.
Narrow streets and high kerbs mean a fair number of our Wokingham calls are sidewall damage rather than punctures. A bulge in the wall of a tyre means a new tyre, there's no repairing that.
Wokingham is close enough to us that it hardly counts as a journey, and it's one of the areas we're in most. It's a commuter town, so a lot of what we see is cars doing serious mileage on the A329 and the M4, then parked on the drive overnight where nobody looks at the tyres until something goes wrong.
A driveway is the easiest place there is for us to work, and nine times out of ten a Wokingham job is finished by the time you've made a cup of tea.
Where we cover
RG40 and RG41, from the town centre out to Emmbrook, Woosehill, Norreys and Wescott, plus the roads towards Winnersh and Barkham.
We come over from Burghfield along the A33 and across. It's a short run we make all the time, so same day is normal, and there's no distance charge for Wokingham and no call-out fee in business hours.
New tyres
Fitted and balanced on your drive in Wokingham, and we take the old tyre away with us.
Puncture repair
You'll know whether it's a repair or a new tyre before we start any work, not after.
Part worn tyres
Every one is checked for tread and damage before it goes anywhere near your car. A cheaper option that we're happy to put our name to.
What we see round here
High kerbs and tight corners
Parking on an older street means you'll clip a kerb now and then, and a hard one can cut the sidewall or buckle the rim underneath. If the steering's started shaking since you caught one, don't leave it. Get it looked at.
Commuter mileage and the way it wears tyres
The typical Wokingham car isn't damaged, it's just well used. Fifteen to twenty five thousand miles a year on the A329M, the M4 and the run into Reading takes a set of tyres down evenly and quietly.
That's the awkward part. Damage announces itself and wear doesn't. A tyre losing half a millimetre of tread every couple of months never feels any different from one week to the next, so people don't notice until an MOT tester or the garage mentions it at a service.
The fix is a two minute habit. Once a month, put a twenty pence coin in the main grooves. If you can see the outer band of the coin, the tread's getting close to the legal limit and it's time to start planning.
Where we go around Wokingham
RG40 and RG41 across the town, including Woosehill, Emmbrook, Keephatch, Norreys and the streets around the market place, plus Barkham, Finchampstead and Arborfield just outside.
Winnersh and the business parks along the A329 are regular stops, and a daytime visit to the office car park suits a lot of people better than trying to be at home.
The newer developments south and east of town are all easy driveway jobs. If parking's tight, tell us the road when you ring.
Questions we get asked
Almost always. We only need a safe space beside the one wheel, and if the road won't take the van we can often work from the nearest side street.
